Getting Around the Agility Course

SUMMARY: ParAgility.

On days when I'm unhappy about my ability to get around the agility course with my dog or to train my dog to work away from me, I should come back and see what these people have accomplished with so many more challenges:

  1. At one of our local trials a woman in one of those fast wheel chairs showed up and ran her fast BC on the masters USDAA courses. She was awesome, had some of the best, fastest clean runs of everybody. Looked to me like she had a lot of strong verbal cues.

    1. I've seen only one person in a motorized wheelchair doing agility, quite a few years ago, and I don't think it was USDAA, maybe NADAC. And one woman with a back injury who could walk but no longer run, already had a trained dog and was trying to make the transition to working at a distance all the time. Saw her at a couple of trials then not any more. It's got to be tough playing under the same rules that mobile people play under. I'm glad to know that people are doing it successfully.

    2. Do you know who see is? I'm looking for a wheelchair to use for dog agility and I'd like to get any advice I can.

    3. I don't know who the person was whom I saw. Maybe Elaine knows a name for the woman she saw?

  2. There is a lady here who can't walk but a few steps on the course, she does AKC and USDAA. They are so good! She does distance classes around here too. Just amazing.

  3. I saw one woman in a motorized wheelchair do agility at a trial once right alongside everyone else. Her dog's weaves were amazing.

  4. A friend of mine has some pretty serious hip and knee issues so has difficulty/pain running. She recently started trialing with her first BC and the distance work they do is amazing! Fun to see the surprise on everyone's faces (mine included) around the Starters ring when she leads out to the other side of the ring while her dog holds a perfect start-line stay and then nails the opening line...

    Inspirational!

p.s. Am I the only one finding it impossible to read the anti-spam code these days? Gonna try again...

    1. On some pages, I've had to try 5 or 6 times to type the Captcha correctly. It is frustrating. I guess I could try moderated comments again; I added the antispam thing when I was starting to get overwhelmed with junk comments.
