SUMMARY: Uneventful
Took me longer than expected to figure out how to get my borrowed bike on top of the cartop carrier container and to strap it in, so I left my house at 6:15 rather than 6. Took about the expected hour to get to Diana's place in Salinas, and then it took a bit longer than I had hoped to figure out how to jigsaw-puzzle everything for 5 dogs, 2 people, 6 days, and 1500 miles into the vechicle, so left Salinas more like 8:30 than 8. No tragedy, though.
The trip was completely uneventful. Even driving through L.A. from about 2-3 p.m., we encountered almost no travel. Did make use of the express carpool lanes when they were available, but except for a small exciting stretch where we were going 65 and the rest of traffic was going 30, usually the rest of the traffic was moving faster than the carpool lane.
We stopped for longer than I had hoped as we went along, mostly waiting for my dogs to produce some #2. Boost, who had done so at 2 a.m. when I woke up hungry (gak), wasn't interested, even after breakfast. In fact, she didn't care even after dinner on the road that evening or before bed or even at 1 a.m. last night when she woke me up fussing and I took her out again. She managed to go 31 hours without a #2, which drives me nuts when I'm responsible for taking them out on leash to do their business, and to top it, went about 14 hours without peeing, despite playing with great vigor with Cassidy, Diana's 8-month-old Border Collie puppy.
The dogs were all very good for being in their crates from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m., but they all really wanted to play instead of going to bed--none-the-less they settled down quickly and let me get a few hours of sleep.
A quick, free, light breakfast at the hotel, now we're just waiting until it's time to go get ice (for cooler & my knee) and Starbucks (for Diana) and check in and set up our home-away-from-home-away-from-home at Westworld.
