After 5-years of caring for her she is now our princess. Most the dogs here just sleep, but yesterday we had our first pack game. "Chase the chicken" It was really entraining how they all 3 worked together as a pack to corner the bird without any training. Dogs are social beings so treat them as such. Yes the bird lived. Happy hunting. ;-) Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01346759717826620519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730801.post-21779001602366244352008-04-28T08:52:00.000-07:002008-04-28T08:52:00.000-07:00Yup--we're agility addicts!Yup--we're agility addicts!Elfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01827436807468320435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730801.post-86397161833772118852008-04-28T08:43:00.000-07:002008-04-28T08:43:00.000-07:00It's funny how we all seem to go through the same ...It's funny how we all seem to go through the same reasoning processes when thinking about adding a dog.

My dogs are 10.5 and almost 4 but I've more or less retired Jaime from agility so this Fall I'll only be trialing one dog (which I like unless they're both in Masters--otherwise the conflicts make me crazy.

I, too, love living with only two dogs. I love that you can take them both with you almost as easily as taking one. Three, not so much.

I don't really have room for three dogs either. And I don't have a fenced yard so keeping track of two dogs is doable but not three.

On the other hand, I'm ready to raise and train another puppy--or at least I will be soon and I expect Jaime to live for many more years. And that fact alone--that I'll only have one agility dog--weighs with me more than all the other things combined.

So, I'll probably wind up getting a puppy within a year or so despite all the arguments against it :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730801.post-46830393417003183212008-04-28T08:02:00.000-07:002008-04-28T08:02:00.000-07:00Oh, yeah, and about fitting into your small car: W...Oh, yeah, and about fitting into your small car: When I got a 3rd dog, I gave up and got a minivan. You could, too! ;-)Elfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01827436807468320435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730801.post-83581967962747714902008-04-28T08:01:00.000-07:002008-04-28T08:01:00.000-07:00The other thing I really want to avoid is ever hav...The other thing I really want to avoid is ever having 2 dogs within 2 years of age again. Amber and Sheba were within a couple years of each other. Remington and Jake were within a couple of years of each other. Like Lucy and Walter, they'd both be growing old at the same time and probably dying around the same time (if Rem hadn't had cancer and gone earlier--or if Sheba hadn't been amazing and lived to 17--). Just don't want to go there again. So 4 to 6 years between dogs seems about right.

-ellenElfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01827436807468320435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730801.post-24724955502731386572008-04-26T17:24:00.000-07:002008-04-26T17:24:00.000-07:00Wow, I really enjoyed that post. It will have to be a small dog, 20 lbs or less, since (a) that's the only way they'll all fit in my small car, and (b) that's the only way I'll be able to walk all three at a time since one of my current dogs is a Tika wannabe on leash. This post reminded me of all the wonderful thing about having only two dogs, so thanks for keeping at bay any overly ambitious plans to acquire a third dog sooner than later.Muttsandaklutzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05551047401085562752noreply@blogger.com
